Here is my routine.
Morning:
I splash my face with room temperature water.
Then I put on cliniques dramatically different moisturizing lotion +. And wait till it sinks in to do the next step.
Then I put on too faced primed & poreless primer (I was using smashbox's photo finish color correcting adjust primer but it did that same thing to me) and I let that sit 5-8 minutes.
Then I use too faced born this way foundation. I put a pump of it on the back of my hand then I use little dabs of foundation all over me face. Then I light smooth the foundation over my face but I don't completely smooth it out. Then I use my beauty blender to smooth the rest out.
This is where it turns out like this.
I even used tartes compacted brush and I still get the same result
At the end I also you tartes smooth operator finishing powder. It doesn't seem to help or hurt this final result.
But another problem is that after an hour or 2 I get really oily on my forehead, nose, and the part of my cheek closest to my eyes.
My night routine is
Wash my face with Burt bees radiance face wash with Royal jelly (every three night I use extracts coconut body scrub)
Then I use first aid beauty's facial radiance pads (which are suppose to exfoliate and tone)
Then my final step is Josie Marian's whipped Aragon oil face butter.
So in the end I need help with my makeup so it doesn't look like this (sorry about my problematic skin)
(And if it is dryness how do get rid of my oiliness as well)

Just some toughts/questions:
- have you check what are your foundation and primer base? Water VS oil can cause separation.
- Have you ever tried another foundation?
- Have you try without a primer? I think my foundation look better without it... Or I usualy will use a pore reducer primer just around my uper cheek area where my pore are more visible.
And by the way, my skin has the same issues as you do. Seems to be dryer as I get older, but after a couple hours, I get oily on the forehead, nose and chin.

When I took a look at ingredients I saw water as the main in my foundation and for my primer I saw oils but I didn't see water on the list so I'm not sure if my primer and foundation would clash? But I also use to use a Smahsbox primer and a MUFE primer. They both had the same effect.
Before I have tried MUFE's HD foundation and Tarte's liquid Amazonian clay foundation. Both had same effect (only the Tarte foundation was wayyy worse)
I use to use no primer before I even knew about it. I actually tried primer before I thought it would help me. And I don't know if it's the primer types fault because my last two primer were for correcting redness and it had the same effect.

I have this same problem too, so I know how you feel. It could be the foundation or primer you are using. Also the moisturizer you are using may not give you enough moisture. That happened to me and I had to switch my moisturizers.

What are you using a primer for? Is it to smooth out lines and pores, brighten, color correct, etc? If you don't have any need for a primer to do a certain thing, then just use moisturizer. It's the best primer of all. I use Embryolisse. It's a staple. I do use a primer sometimes, like when I want to blur my pores, or when I want to add a lot of radiance, but for day to day I just use my Embryolisse moisturizer. I don't have to worry about it clashing with any foundation ingredients, and it's a fabulous primer. Maybe try skipping the primer!

With born this way foundation I do not use a pump of it because that is way way too much, it looks cakey if I use a full pump. I literally use dots of it and then blend with a damp sponge. I then use concealer if I need more coverage in certain areas. Other than that, I would try and use an alcohol free toner such as thayers witch hazel to give more hydration to your skin prior moisturizer. This solved my dehydrated skin I used to suffer from before!

Hi Fiona, do you ever exfoliate you skin? Too me it looks like you have some dead skin and exfoliating will get rid of that. Foundation have a tendency to enhance the dry patches!

I'm with sabrina. I would get a clarisonic. it will exfoliate all that dead skin away and make it more smooth. also if you are starting out dry and then getting oily in an hour or so your skin is probably dehydrated. you're moisturizer probably isn't penetrating your skin due to the dead skin on top.

You should try putting primer on your beauty blender and make sure not to use your fingers to spread the foundation everywhere.

It seems to be exactly what Sabrina & Kelly mentioned because using Too faced prime & poreless (which I love) on skin that is not properly prepped can result in a silicone plastic seal that will attach itself to any texture and start to give a separation look to the skin in patches and if you have Un cleaned pores it will leave that same film over that as well and many confuse it all as a foundation error when it's the silicone attachments to the error of the skin prep. Facials help big time and as Kathryn mentioned moisturize:)
