I have asked the best MUA I know for advice on this but I want to ask you ladies your opinions as well because all of you give REALLLLYY good advice!
I'm doing a trial run for a lady in a bodybuilding competition. I understand stage makeup... Matte skin, darker eyebrows and contour, vibrant eyeshadow, etc. My problem is with her eyes.
When her eyes are open the lid disappears. I wanted to do a glossy, slightly glittery black smokey eye with Mac's Studio Fluid but how can I carry black up that high? So I have to change my plan.
Another issue is the looks she sent me that she likes. She's over 50, (looks fabulous), but I mentioned her eyelid thing and the corners of her eyes crinkle quite a bit.
I will post pics of her first, and then the looks she likes and if you ladies would please give me some advice, I would come fly and hug you all. I've never done a bodybuilding show so I'm nervous.
Ps. I think she is new at this- the research I did said not to match your makeup to your outfit but she sent me pics in her outfit so I could see the color. Other reasons too.

I'm good at complexion, I'm good at highlight and contour, but I don't know what to do with her eyes. Maybe a vivid lid color with a color a shade darker coming up out the outer corners? Like force the eyeshadow to make that shape?
In bodybuilding competitions they wear heavy, bright colors. Help me.

Hey Kathryn, I was wondering if you asked your client permission to publish her photos on our forum for your thread?

Hmm do you think false lashes would make her eyes pop a bit? and I'm also concerned about whether you have her permission or not..

Kathryn R.
I did ask, yes. They say that big false lashes will cause bad shadows because all the lights come from above.

I wouldn't ever post anyone's face without permission.

So I AM going to use false lashes, just not long ones. Either individuals or a strip that's not too big.

You are amazing. I've done a crapload of research, I hear I'm supposed to blend but leave the highlight and contour darker than usual so it can be seen from the stage? And what about a lipstick color? A certain type of pink or purple would go great with the turquoise you suggested, but should I do a toned down nude look instead? I also hear I'm supposed to leave the brows darker?

I've seen some clear lip product lately on YT videos by either Kryolan or Inglot or something, it makes the lips look like glass. I don't have the product you have in that pic, but I do have the big LaMaq palette (and a thousand lipsticks). I can easily make lipstick from the LaMaq palette and actually really like doing it. I add gloss on top and I exfoliate prior.
I love the rhinestone idea. LOVE it. Thank you.
I did have a little freak out when I realized that this appointment was not what I assumed it was.
So, I blend the lines, but don't blend it in like normal. No harsh lines, but no regular blending.
Match her face to her spray tanned shoulders and neck.
Slightly deeper contour and slightly brighter highlight.
Brows shaped like normal but two shades darker.
Also, I don't get long lashes because they cast a shadow right? I should get lashes that fan out at the corners?
Thank you my friend. As always, you're my savior.
I feel like I should use my AquaSeal for something. Add it to foundation?

Also, I'm just going to do a normal glam eye look. I'm not going to knock myself out and try something crazy and end up with a mess. This is her first competition so I think she will be happy as long as it looks pretty to her.

I'm going to use a dark blue/green duo chrome on her eyelids, bring it a little over the crease, blend it into the highlight, and do a winged liner and lashes that flare at the corners. I'll do a lighter color on the inner and outer lids. I'll use turquoise glitter somehow. Either that or the rhinestones. Maybe rhinestones where you suggested the glitter. And that's that. I'm not stressing. I refuse.

She is very receptive to me because this is her first time and she is way more nervous than I am. I think she would be OK with anything I do. Thank you so so so so much for your time and for your advice. I know your advice has value, and I appreciate it greatly.

Oh wait Jacqueline one more thing! I have that gold pigment from Pat McGrath. Should I use it instead? Should I make a gold Eye because that is so bright and noticeable?

Kathryn R.
Her eyes are blue if that helps.

Well, I don't know. I really want to do the "snow globe" look, because it is so very easy to put the dark color in the middle and the lighter colors on the inner and outer corners. The gold would change all of that. What do you think?
Apr 1, 2016
Kathryn R.
Some people call it the sandwich look or the halo I. You know what I'm talking about.
Apr 1, 2016
Kathryn R.
I only ask because Pat McGrath's phantom a gold pigment is so bright and stands out so much. I am thinking no, but I want to ask you.

Oh I didn't even think about how the gold color did not work with the color she is wearing. Thank you so much for the advice, again I hope you are blessed by it, but I like a lot! :-)

You've got this, Kathryn. Don't freak (or not for long)!
