if you have dry skin dont use this, its worked great for some and others its been awful. though you can come to the conclusion to not use it if you dont suffer from excess oil. everyones skin is different and you have to try diff products to find whats best for you. thats kindergaren we all know that. nothing is a godsend for everyone skintype. not even the clarisonic . :)

I've been converted to the joys of shea for over a decade now, but I'm might try african black soap. I don't get acne, but if it can fade dark I might try it. Is it vegan? There's no beeswax or honey mixed in?

Ari, that's not true. I have dry skin and use this. People with eczema also use this. You have to have a good moisturizer to go with this product and you will be fine. I have desert dry skin and I use this product twice a day.

Veganbeauty, I'm almost positive there is no beeswax or honey in it. I hope you try this product and enjoy. I'm trying to turn as many people onto it as possible LOL. It's such a cheap, easy and natural way to have beautiful skin and not enough people know about it.

Can it be used with a Clarisonic?
Jan 16, 2013
Melissa M.
I would imagine so. I don't see why not. I'm actually thinking of getting a clarisonic and if I do, I'll be using the black soap with it.

that would not work well with a clarisonic there Are little pieces of grit in it and it would tear your skin and cause inflammation. you cant use anyting with any grit, seeds, beads etc

It TOTALLY works with a Clarisonic! I use the African Black Soap every night with my Clarisonic without problems. I rub the soap in my hands and apply the lather to my face as well as rub my Clarisonic brush gently on the bar and then turn it on and cleanse my face. Removes every bit of make-up. No scratches or tears in my skin whatsoever.

@Ari, once again not true! You are a naysayer of this product so why keep coming in here to discourage people and scare them away from using it? Just ignore this topic, please. There are no pieces of grit in the African soap that I posted pictures of. So please know of what you speak. Maybe there are pieces of grit on the bar form of the soap, but I have already expressly stated that the bar is not as good.
@Shai, thank you for making an INFORMED comment.

I'm a huge fan of the bar...I think the brand is Nubian Heritage. It really has done wonders for my skin and costs under 5 bucks. I buy it at health food stores but can also be found at drugstore.com This brand does have little shell pieces but I've never had a problem with it cutting my skin. Melissa...thanks for sharing your finds on amazon!

@Nina S. I'm so sorry, I did not see your comment until now. The 100% raw form of the African soap isn't sold at Walmart or Target, that was the Burt's Bees Moisturizer I was talking about. I purchased the African soap at an African/Caribbean store in South Philadelphia. But the amazon link I posted is the same product that I have.
Here's the link again: http://www.amazon.com/100-Pure-African-Black-Liqiud/dp/B000W3WP1W/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top

@Melisa R, yay I'm excited that you're trying it. Remember though, it WILL dry your skin out so do not get discouraged. Just use a good moisturizer with it. If you need a heavy moisturizer that will do the trick, I recommended one in the comments above. Good luck, I hope you love it. Please let me know how it works for you.

The Nubian Heritage Bar I have lists African Black Soap as the first ingredient, followed by Coconut Oil, Shea Butter, Oats, Aloe, Vitamin E, Vegetable Glycerin, and Vegetable Coloring. So it IS African Black Soap, it has just been diluted with nourishing and calming ingredients to help to counteract the harshness of the soap in its pure form. None of these ingredients, especially coconut oil, could be considered an inexpensive fillers except for maybe glycerin which is at the bottom of the list.
I myself have oily temperamental skin and even I don't think my skin could handle anything more drying without becoming really pissed off at me. I would say to try the Nubian or SheaMoisture bars and then if you feel like you can handle something stronger get the 100% Pure African Black Soap so you aren't sabotaging your experience with a really good natural cleanser.
