Yea you have to strip all the black dye out of your hair which could be VERY damaging as in your hair melting off lol so be very careful, you don't need to bleach your hair very blond tho because also the more damaged your hair is the color will fade out faster. Red color always fades fast no matter what you do, it's just one of those high maintenance colors =\

I had red hair like that for about a year. Upkeep was tedious but I loved the colour so I didn't mind. I used sulfate free colour safe shampoos and conditioner. I dyed it with Pravana hair colour too, it seems to work the best, for me at least. Also, dry shampoo with be your best friend since the more you wash your hair the quicker it will fade. Hope this helped!

Red hair color has the largest molecules of any other color so by nature it doesn't hold as well as other colors, and since your hair is probably very damaged from bleaching it your hair will have an even harder time holding any color at all well. I would invest in some It's A Ten as well as some professional deep conditioners. Also, next time you need to bleach your hair just go to a professional. Sure it costs more but you will end up with better and more even results. I would focus more on getting your hair as healthy as possible before you focus on the color.

I've had really good luck with L'oreal Hicolor Highlights. My hair is naturally ashy blonde. I dyed it very dark burgundy brown, but wanted to lighten it up with some bright red highlights. The L'oreal Hicolor worked perfectly without any bleaching or stripping. It wasn't too damaging either. :)

I agree with Claire about having it done professionally. I also agree that it's better to wait until your hair is in better condition before you get it dyed again.
