Job Interview. Outfit, hair, make up?

I've been invited to a job interview later this month and I'm a bit lost on what to wear. It's for a healthcare job (working with children) and from my last interview it's not really appropriate to be going for a business suit, it's slightly more "casual" than that.

Anyone got any ideas for outfits, hair and makeup?

I've got a fair bit of prep to do for the interview so any suggestions would take a weight off my mind. I plan on buying a few new bits for the interview anyway :)

Thanks

Regardless of how "casual" the interview is you should still look professional. Go for a nice blouse with dress pants/pencil skirt or a nice dress. NO JEANS OR LEGGINGS. They are completely unprofessional and give the wrong impression.

Heels or flats, NO SNEAKERS.

Simple jewelry, nothing too flashy or big statement pieces.

Thanks for the suggestions Alexis.

The only reason I said it was more casual is the last interview I did I wore a business suit and was ridiculously over dressed! It's for exactly the same job just a different locality closer to home.

I don't actually own a pencil skirt though. Do you have any recommendations on how to go about finding one and styling it? I've tried them before and don't think they really suit me but maybe it's because I'm not looking for the right style?

I agree with Alexis. It's always better to dress more professional than to dress too casual. You don't have to go for a full suit or a blazer but a nice blouse with dress pants and flats will look great. As for hair just keep it either straight or pulled back in a sleek ponytail. For makeup stick to neutral colours like browns and champagnes and just some pinky nude lipstick.

I actually don't own a pencil skirt either, I always wear dresses or dress pants to interviews. The pictures Shauna posted are great examples for dress pants (:

Thanks girls. Looks like I might have to go shopping.

Do you guys have any ideas on what makes a dress suitable for interview (eg: length, style, colour, etc...)? I'm more of a dress person at work anyway so maybe I might look at wearing a dress?

A neutral colored dress that falls to at least your knees, no shorter than that. Nothing too tight (so definitely stay away from bodycon dresses) and preferably with sleeves. You can get a sleeveless/tank style dress but just put a blazer on over it.

Actually here the dresses are almost always sleeveless, no need to cover your shoulders or anything if it's summer. Just make sure the length is at the knee, not too tight and no cleavage. You can also wear like beige pants (I think the material is called drill?) with a cute blouse and flats.

I work in healthcare (in a day nursery), and although I know that it's a slightly more casual job, GO WITH SMARTWEAR FOR INTERVIEW. I wore black tapered dress trousers and a chiffon shirt with ballet flats. Neutral makeup, I had my hair up in a bun.

Thanks ladies. I think I've got a suitable dress in my wardrobe so I'll have a look for a jacket/ cardigan to go with it.
