I don't have curly hair either and I find that it's easier to put in when your hair is dry, if your hair is wet, it will fall out of the curls. Get a golf ball sized amount of mousse (I like herbal essences totally twisted curl boosting mousse level 2) start at the ends of your hair and scrunch the hair up all the way to the base of your scalp. Coat all the hair to get the wet effect.

Mousse often isn't enough for that look. A gel or spray is better. If you scrunch too much the curls won't form or hold right. When I used to wear my hair like that back in the day, I went outside for 15 minutes right after washing combing out and applying gel. Something about the cool air was genius for making the curls lift. As is a little salt water in a bottle.

I usually just squirt some in my hand, rub them together, and then flip my head upside down and run my fingers through my hair. Also, scrunching will help! I also enjoy the herbal essences mousse!(:
