What To Expect?

My aunt and I are going to get makeovers at Sephora! We're both very excited but I want to have some idea of what to expect when we go.

We're both getting the 45 minute "Custom Makeover" and I understand that there's a $50 minimum purchase.

Any experiences or tips would be greatly appreciated! (:

I've gotten my makeup done at sephora twice now and I have to say it's all dependent on the girl/guy you get. Both times I loved it because they were very open to my thoughts and opinions and made sure that I'm comfortable with what they're putting on my face. The best ones will kind of talk to you as they're applying the makeup, similar to a tutorial and feel free to ask them questions on application tips as well. I learned a lot in the 45 minutes I spent with the girls.

Thank you, Melanie! (:

Have fun with the makeover! & do you have to make a call or something to get one done? or do you just go in & ask for one?

It definitely depends on the person you get, as Melanie said. I've gotten my makeup done twice, and both times the ladies were super nice and friendly, but the second time I went the lady didn't really seem to know what she was doing and I kind of looked like a hot mess. I later found out that it was her first time doing a makeover. It wasn't really a big deal to me, because my makeover was free, but I would have been angry if I'd have payed $50 for that. So yeah, the ladies in everyone's Sephoras are different obviously - some are good and some aren't, but chances are you'll be completely fine. I had fun at both my appointments, regardless of the outcome of my makeup.
And @Shreya, to do a 45min consultation you have to book an appointment. You can do it online or you can call your local Sephora :)

Shreya, I called my local store to make an appointment (:

Jamie, thank you!

I agree that it depends on who you get. Sephora hires ladies without any makeup experience, anyone can work there. I have never found anyone at Sephora who wasn't great at makeup though. They get some training I think, but unless a makeup artist just wants to work there, the employees aren't actual makeup artists. So like the other girls said, it definitely depends on who you get. Just be sure you communicate well with them and don't be afraid to say you don't like something or you want more of something or whatever. That's how I feel about my clients anyway, I always want them to be open with me and not be afraid to speak up. That's the best way to get what you want! Have fun and post pics for us!

Let me edit my above comment- I think there's debate about what constitutes a "makeup artist", all I meant by that was it won't be an artist who has gone to makeup academy and received a license/permit. I believe anyone who gets paid to apply makeup is a makeup artist so I probably should have said that differently. And again, all the girls at my Sephora are awesome!

Thank you, Kathryn! I understood what you meant about the employees not being actual makeup artists (: I'll definitely post a before and after picture but it'll be awhile since we're going on the 15th (:

I've personally only gotten it once and really disliked it cuz I felt dirty they used the same brushes t huey use on the people in the store and didn't do a deep clean on the products I didnt like the end result either I'm so happy it was free never again even if it was free.

Thanks, Lili
