Color remover like a color stripper? I think that's just for dyed hair, for natural hair you just need to bleach it. A color stripper probably won't bleach the hair enough.

Oh, when you said "I have brown hair" you didn't specify that it was dyed. Sorry.

It's really hit or miss with boxed ones. I would go to a professional, just to get it striped and maybe even it out since they aren't always even.

I have tried a couple different brands with varied results. First one I ever tried was Color Oops and it was terrible in my opinion. Left my hair looking patchy and blotchy after. Also it was hands down the stinkiest stuff I have ever put on my head. I don't recommend that one at all!
The one I really did enjoy using is the One n Only Colorfix by Jheri Redding. This one works sooo well! I had bright reddish/magenta colored hair and it removed it with in 30 minutes and went to a uniformly even blondish color. It was still a little stinky, but no where near as bad as color oops was. Also my hair still felt very soft after using this one, I didn't really notice any damage at all. I bought mine from Sally Beauty, not sure if you have those in the UK.

I would definitely go professional, I was going to go lilac by myself and my hairdresser nearly had a coronary when I said I was going to do it myself.
I can recommend some good hairdressers but it depends where you are in the UK, I'm in the south-east :)
