I've been considering getting eyelash extensions for some time now but don't personally know anyone with experience with them. Has anyone had them? And if so are they worth the money?

I am a licensed Esthetician and also do eyelash extensions. definitely do your research on where you go and don't just go to the cheapest place. I've also had eyelash extensions and in my opinion they're definitely worth the money. I already have long lashes but because of their length my mascara smudges on to my lid and nothing gives me the look that extensions do. If you have any other questions regarding them feel free to ask!

They're awesome! I can tell you right now that they're much healthier than mascara or strip lashes because weight is evenly distributed and there's no more lashes than you can handle. I'm also free to answer any specific questions you ask because I don't wanna go on a tangent which I tend to do!

They are water proof, so it needs to be a water based remover. Oil is what disbonds the glue, so oil based eye makeup and cleansers will weaken the bond between your lash and the extensions. You also of course want to be gentle with them to keep them looking their fullest for as long as possible, but they're not flimsy or weak by any means.

I really wanted to get them, until my aunt got some and she hated them. I saw them and they were so uneven and you could easily tell something was different with her eyelashes (not in a good way) although it may have been the place she weny.

Definitely sounds like the place she went Emme! I have a friend who got hers done by a girl who did them out of her car for $70 and wondered why they looked like crap.. Hmmmm LOL! Megan I find that with extensions your eyes look so open that you don't even feel the need to wear eye makeup all the time, and this is coming from someone that used to do a full face (including a Kim k contour) on the DAILY! When I do wear eye makeup it usually doesn't get on my lashes too much, it doesn't take much to just be a bit careful you don't have to walk on egg shells or anything! I also brush them through with a Spoolie which usually gets rid of any extra dust or eyeshadow! :) there are specific mascaras made for lash extensions but honestly I don't like the look of it. Without mascara it almost looks like you're wearing falsies because they're so seperated and perfectly curled. Mascara gets rid of that effect and just clumps them together. I've definitely worked on people who use falsies and eyelash extensions and I now refuse them business unless they stop. Not only does it shorten the life of your extensions by ripping them out but it also rips out your natural lashes! (Even when you use them without extensions) it's brutal to do a relash on someone and realize they have half the lashes to work on than they did before, I'm sorry but if you only have 20 lashes on each eye I don't want you going out there saying I do them! LOL also, you don't notice but it's hard to miss when you're up close and personal with lashes but you've got TONS of little balls of glue stuck to your eyelashes if you regularly wear falsies and they're absolutely brutal to get out. I'd rather spend the half hour it takes to pry balls of lash glue out perfecting someone's lashes and making them look as full as possibl.

Around about how much do the average set of extensions cost? (sorry if it was already mentioned, I didn't come across it)

Oh and are lash curlers bad to use if you have extensions?
Jun 23, 2015
Brittany F.
A full set can be 130-200 on average I'd say, some places will charge more or less but I would never ever go to someone who charged less than that, a good technician knows what they are worth is a good rule of thumb to live by. A relash can be about 60-100 and some salons (such as mine) also offer weekly packages or bi weekly depending on what suits your lifestyle. Lash extensions come with natural curvature, witch also pulls your natural lash upwards withit, so they are always curled. You do NOT need any sort of curling device. They have a perfect flattering round curve and a lash curler can cause a crimping effect (much like it would on your natural lashes but more visible in the synthetic mink material) but if you do feel the need to use a curler, a heated curler is recommended. They are more gentle and they are quite inexpensive!

Brittany, how would I know if a place does them correctly besides the price? I would hate to pay a lot for them to look awful because I chose the wrong place. You are so knowledgeable on this, thank you!

It's honestly just looking at reviews, and knowing what to look for! I think something really important is the brand of glue and lashes they use. Lash extension technicians can technically only use the brands they are certified in so finding a brand that offers proper training and trusted product is key because this is something that is going right by your eyes. I personally would NEVER let any brand but XtremeLash touch my eyelashes. They are one of the most reputable companies in North America, all their products are medical grade and they properly train all their techs. On the website itself there is a directory where you can find active techs nearest to you. If there are multiple it's always great to go in and ask questions, a proper technician as well as her staff should know how to answer questions thrown at them about the eyes and extensions. Questions such as
•how long do they last
•how is the process done (they should NEVER BE CLUSTERS UNLESS SPECIFICALLY VOLUMATION WHICH ONLY AN ADVANCED TECH CAN DO)
•ask about irritation
•ask about your natural lashes and damage
•ask about the product itself
•ask if they use different lengths
•ask about after care
•check their pages or portfolios.
•ask about sanitation
A proper technician knows answers to questions like this without a flinch! Education is second next to skill, I wouldn't want someone who is uneducated in proper eye care near my lashes with tweezers

Anytime girl! I'm sorry if I totally took over your thread Jamie but I hope I answered some of your questions or concerns you had as well 😊

Brittany answered all the questions exactly how I would, I apologize I forgot to check back on here for questions. I agree the biggest thing is finding a well trained and knowledgeable tech, even though I personally wouldn't trust anyone charging less than the normal, price doesn't always depict how it'll turn out. Definitely don't be afraid to ask questions like the ones Brittany posted or anything else you're concerned about and definitely look at reviews and some may have before and after pictures. I don't have my lashes on right now but I'm the same as Brittany I wear a full face of makeup every single day, and even though I still love doing it, I find when I have my lashes on I can wear foundation, blush, little highlighter and bronzer and a bright lip and don't have to do anything or much at all to my eyes. I've tried many drugstore and high end false lashes and honestly none compare once I tried lash extensions. And I wouldn't worry about them getting foundation on them, they're not as delicate as you may think, you can wash them & I always send my clients home with a spoolie brush which also helps remove anything on the lashes. I'd love to see a before and after if you decide to get them done!

I got lash extensions for 12 months (with maintenance). I did love them, it was great to wake up and feel already set to leave the house :) my only issue, and the reason I chose to stop getting them, was that as they would grow out I would fiddle with them (habit) and it's very easy to pull them off with your own real lashes. I lost ALOT of my own lashes so decided to give myself a beak from them. I use strip lashes at the moment. Hope this helps and good luck :)
