Argh. I'm so annoyed. It seems no matter what I do lately but my foundation always looks cakey and patchy on/around my nose and mouth.
Details:
- Use heavy moisturizer (argan oil)
- Exfoliate
- Use primer
- Use setting spray
- Using Lancome Tient Idole 24hr, but it also looked cakey w/ other foundations
Any suggestions or product recommendations? I'm not sure what else to do

You should exfoliate before you moisturize and you should only be exfoliating once a week, twice at most.

Are you using an actual moisturizer along with an oil?
Oils make wonderful boosters to any moisturizer.. Alone.. eh not so beneficial and will still give you dry skin.

Alexis; Yeah I always exfoliate before, it'd be odd to do it after.

Kittt; I knew I was forgetting something lol yes I do use a moisturizer. Some night one by Origins, I can't think of the actual name.

How much are you applying. I learned that when I was a bit heavy handed I ended up looking cake face. Maybe try using a beauty blender and build to desired coverage.

Another tip if you are feeling/looking cakey. When using your brush to apply, first put just a tiny bit of your moisturizer on the back of your hand, run the bristles of your brush through it, just very lightly coating them with moisturizer before picking up your foundation with your brush. Then apply as normal, it'll barely sheer out your foundation, but it'll smooth out the finish.
However, if your foundation has a silicone base, it may not be adhering to your oil and/or moisturizer and instead sitting on top the skin and collecting in areas like around the noise and mouth where there tends to be more crevices.
Hope this helps.

1. Make sure you have a good skin care routine, Wash 2x, Moisturize 2x, Exfoliate 1x a week, use a Mask 1x a week etc.
2. Drink plenty of water
3. If you have dry skin make sure your primer doesn't have a matte finish, and what I tend to do is use a product like the porefessionals by benefit, not to prime (it's not a primer), but to even out the texture of my skin
4. I apply my foundation in sections and blend everything out with my Beauty Blender to make my foundation look flawless (plus it removes excess product)
5. Then use a setting spray after to emulsify your foundation and powder products.
6. Helpful Tip that I learned. Use concealer AFTER foundation EVERY TIME. When you apply your concealer on before you are apply unnecessary amounts of product on your face because you will apply the product onto every little spot, but if you even out your skin first with the foundation, a lot of those areas will already be covered and won't need concealer. Obviously it's still personal preference but this was a tip a makeup artist gave me when I complained about a cakey face.

Maybe you are using too much product.

Maybe you are not blending enough, do sections start with one cheek and move around the face, don't use too much primer and let it dry for a minute before you start.

When you use a oil/heavy moisturizer product with lancome foundation it makes it slip, always happens that Foundation is best used alone.

After I apply concealer (I don't use foundation) and then powder, I spray my face with rosewater, which helps

Lisa Eldridge (makeup artist) said that if you put a lot of skincare lotion and creams and primer that can create a very thick base for a foundation. Make sure your primer fits well with your moistruizer and try waiting about 5 to 10 minutes between moistruizer and primer.

Also, try using more of your setting spary. Before and after fondation.
