Cleaning Flat Iron??

Okay so my straightener always smells like burned hair. I've tried cleaning it off with a washcloth (damp & dry) and I just wondered if anyone has something they do that works better? I have a Chi but this has happened no matter what flat iron I've ever had. Help? Thanks!💕💜💕
