I agree with Tomoko to just let people use what they want to use since it literally has nothing to do with anyone else.
Also, to address your "we have no way of knowing which brands really test on animals" comment, we actually do. There's The Leaping Bunny which only allows cruelty free products to have their leaping bunny logo on their packaging and they define cruelty free as the product and ingredients never be tested on animals at any point.
There's also PETA, which has their list of cruelty free brands, which I believe has the same standards as The Leaping Bunny.
So yes, we do know which brands are truly cruelty free and which ones aren't you just need to do the research.

As someone who has shifted to just buying cruelty free, I don't believe my attempts to improve my image should be at the cost of living things.
Also if you research the topic more intensely there isn't any reason to test on animals as there are other methods of testing.
Studies have also shown that because animals have different skin and fur/hair testing chemicals on them doesn't guarantee is won't hurt humans because it reacts differently.
Makeup companies make enough profit not to test on animals. I don't force anyone I know to buy cruelty free or judge them if they do. There are companies that are going great lengths to partner with companies consider themselves cruelty free throw a list of requirements and research.
