Hair masks including coconut oil help for keeping it healthy, also assuie 3 minute miracle from the store is good. If your dying your hair brown, blonde or red, I suggest the John frieda color hair care line. Any other color, I suggest taking a look at sallys beauty supply, drugstores don't hold very many hair care products. I recommend getting a shampoo and conditioner that's specifically for the color that you're dying it because regular color safe shampoos tend to fade color. Use cool water on your hair instead of warm or hot.

I meant drugstores don't carry very many colored hair care lines that actually protect your hair color.

Use color safe shampoo and conditioner and/or get conditioner for the color you're dying your hair.
Use heat as little as possible and use a heat protectant when you do use heat.
Wash your hair in lukewarm or cold water as hot water will fade the color.
If you're dying your hair red I highly suggest keeping your hair dry on days that you're not washing your hair as wash it was little as possible.

Heat is just plain out horrible for hair, colored or not. The dye is going to damage, it's good to stay away from heat because it's only going to damage more.

Shanae's right, it'll cause more damage and also fade the color.
