I'm sorry but Dark and Lovely Hair color isn't made any differently from Clairol or Loreal hair colors. Dark n Lovely is just merely marketed towards women of color. ALL women regardless of ethnic/racial background can use it.

Ooh good to know Shelley, I've eyed up a red colour which I'm quite liking. do you know if the colour develops well? and thanks yaya I thought that too that's why I thought I'd ask :)

It depends on the condition of your hair and natural hair color. And what color/formula are you looking at?

What shade of red...I will be able to look it up.

I never said it was...what's with the attitude? it is marketed for women of color maybe due to texture wise but I ever said no one else can use it.

Hmmm...Yaya I never had an atttitude. I was merely pointing out a common misconception when it comes to products marketed towards a certain ethnic group. The chemicals used in hair color is all basically the same regardless of hair texture. Some brands/formulas may have more conditioning agents than others. I wasn't even mad at you Yaya.

I agree with Shelly. All hair dye is the same. Each company might have their own "formula" but in the end you get the same result. Just make sure you get a good hair conditioner treatment for afterwards and it will be fine. All hair dye damages the hair to some extent.

Laura which color were you looking to get? I'm sure I've probably used it.
I know there was one that I didn't like because it faded way to quickly

I've never tried that color. I've actually never seen that one before. now I'm curious lol
I've never had any issues with their dyes but with any hair color just be sure to keep your hair conditioned. I think you should be fine using it.
I love the color of your hair in your profile pics. I don't know if it's still that color but if your hair is really dark, unfortunately, it won't be quite the same as the color on the box. I've learned that from experience.

That was about a year ago and I haven't dyed it since so its now a very faded red colour so I'm hoping it works out well. thank you for your advice I really appreciate it I will surely invest in a good conditioner thank you :)

Hi Laura, I have the exact same haircolor as you do ( the original dark brown) and I have used the "ravishing red" from dark and lovely. It turned out beautiful. Shelley is 100% correct about the color being the same. Its just the marketing thats different. I was red for years (now blonde) The very best box color I used was loreal or any box that says "hi-lift" will give you the most brilliant red. The best salon color for me is always goldwell. The thing thats going to make the difference is the porosity and condition that your hair is in. Good luck!

Hi Eva, I've just finished dying my hair but it didn't come out anywhere near red :(. I will hav to give the high lift a try thank you for your advice.

Do they have a higher developer in them?

Hi Laura. sorry for the late reply. If your hair did not come out the color you wanted there could be a few reasons. First one would be, you have another color under. Even if its another red; when you deposit color on color, you're going to get a darker or more saturated color. No matter what. If this is the case you would need color remover or a lightener first, before you try to color.

If you were going for an extremely brilliant (like "Kool-Aid") red. You're using the wrong product entirely. I just did my daughter's a seriously bright (but tasteful, shes 13) red on her ends. I used manic panic. I will post a pic, she's in school now. Why don't you show a pic of what your hair looks like now; and what you want it to look like. We can see if its something you can (want to) achieve yourself or if you should visit a salon.
