Stop manipulating them period, put castor oil on them and massage them when you put in your daily moisturizer to stimulate the scalp

Avocado oil and castor oil, massage them into you edges every night. You have to make sure you moisturize. As someone who's always been natural I never expected sleek "layed" edges, but if you stop relaxing your hair it's going to take a little while to get used to your natural curls and the texture. Slicking them back and using gel and edge control will only break them off

Just to clarify, the oils won't moisturize your hair, so make sure you add leave in conditioner or serum or something water based (aloe Vera counts as water)
