Just 2 weeks ago I decided to get a Mirena IUD instead of my Paraguard IUD. My doctor basically said there would be no issues. Well one week later I noticed my hair seemed thinner especially at hairline and at the nape area. I also saw more on the floor after blow drying. Well it looks like hair loss is a side effect of the Mirena and even listed on the website. I lost a TON of hair after I had my son 2.5 years ago and it took forever to come back and never got fully back to pre-pregnancy levels in my opinion. I don't want to deal with that again, so I'm going to have the IUD taken out before it gets worse. What should I do to help it grow back now? I bought the Nutri-Ox Thinning Hair System at Sally. Anyone use it? I'm also already taking biotin (yes, I know some people have issues with it but it's been fine for me). Any other product recommendations? Thank you!!

I used Nioxin 3 step treatment when my hair was falling out, I saw pretty good results, though it definitely took a while. Though if I'm not mistaken, Nutri-Ox is the generic for nioxin so you should be good! I'd also recommend using soft hair ties and minimal heat when styling, that helped me a lot. Good luck!

Kailey shared great advice. I also might add...sleeping on a satin or silk pillowcase as it won't add further stress to your hair as you sleep plus it won't suck any vital moisture out of your hair...which in your situation you must maintain as much as your natural oils as possible.

Amla oil (eliptica alba) has been proven to work as well as minoxidil (rogaine) You can get it at an Indian Market.

Nioxin is wonderful! it promotes blood flow to the scalp and also helps prevent the hair from falling out. and as Shelley said, a silk pillow case. also, do not sleep with your hair in a pony and be cautious when handling wet.

Thank you everyone! I had not even really heard of Nioxin before this. I'll have to determine how Nutri-ox compares by looking at ingredients. Might just go get the Nioxin to be safe. I actually have a silk pillow case somewhere so I'm going to find it.
