Is it okay to exfoliate everyday or not? I read somewhere that it's okay and I was just wondering. If it matters I have normal skin.

I think everyone's skin is different. If I exfoliate everyday my skin become irritated, dry, and extremely sensitive. But I know other girls who exfoliate everyday and their skin is fine.

It's recommended to do it up to 3 times a week, more than that you're risking irritation. Your skin doesn't produce skin cells that fast to necessitate daily exfoliation, but if you'd like you can use a konjac sponge that does very very very mild exfoliation everyday:)

I say no. I heard it can cause scarring. Plus, it makes my skin feel raw if I do it too close together.

That depends on the product entirely and the skins enviroment.
There are different types of exfoliants; Manual Exfoliants which are the most common. These typically contain beads. The finer the beads the more likely you will have to exfoliate. These only adress the outermost superficial layer of the skin. The more abrasive they are the less youll exfoliate. Avoid manual exfoliants that contain shells or jagged edges. All manual exfoliants excaberrate acne and other skin issues therefore it may not be ideal.
A chemical exfoliant can be used as often as twice a day. Chemical exfoliants do not contain any beads and do not irritate acne or any other skin issue. Chemical exfoliates can go as deep as into the pore to exfoliant unlike manual scrubs. Chemic exfoliants are gentle compared to a manual scrub however they can sensitize your skin to the sun. The FDA recommends following with an SPF of 30 or greater if you use a chemical exfoliant.
A manual scrub is great for getting rid of superficial dry skin. A chemicial exfoliant can deal with a vareity of issues, such as prevent clogged pores, white heads, black heads, roscea, dryness, brown spots and other acne marks. A good chemical exfoliant will contain anti irritants and anti inflammatory ingredients to help reduce swelling and irritation from acne.
Whether you go for a manual scrub or a chemical exfoliant each product will advise how often to exfoliate.
You must also pay attention to your skin to see how it reacts and how often it can be exfoliated. There is no ideal straight forward answer to how often to exfoliate because like I explained, it varies on the product and on the skins enviroment.

I agree with kitty 100%, it depends on what you're using and your particular skin. I personally use a Konjac sponge, a manual exfoliant that's gentle enough that I can use it daily to keep my dry skin from getting flakey.
