If you don't care for it properly, yes. Put dye in your conditioner, or keep redying it which will dry it out even more. Wash it with cool water.

If I put dye into my conditioner, do I just put it on the dyed part for a certain amount of time?

I'd suggest refreshing the color every once in a while with a vegan dye like Manic Panic :)

Only if you're going to keep it for a long while, if not the other two gals gave a good suggestion

Renay, so Manic Panic lasts longer because its a Vegan dye?

No. what I'm saying is when you notice the color fading, instead of redying it with a box dye which will cause more damage, use a vegan dye because they're more gentle for refreshing the color.

I'll keep all your tips in mind for when I dye my hair. Thank you all for answering my questions :)

I agree with Renay. & putting manic panic in your conditioner would be even better, you would probably have to have two different bottles of conditioner, one for your red and one for your regular. It'll keep the color vibrant, and washing with cool water will keep it from fading faster.

When I had red hair I only washed my hair once a week to keep it healthy and to prevent fading. When I did shampoo it, I used Riveting Reds shampoo and conditioner from Sally's Beauty Supply. It's a color depositing shampoo that refreshes the color instead of stripping it. It would still fade to a somewhat copper color after using heat and what not, so I would just touch of the spots that bothered me the most and my roots of course. I did that about every 4-6 weeks.

This colour may not fade into an orange colour. It depends on the type of dye you'll use (permanent or vegan dyes) it also depends on the base the particular colour is made from. Some reds fade to pink, others to orange and darker reds (if permanent dye) will fade to a maroon colour. Like Renay said, you can use vegan dyes like manic panic to refresh your colour.

Every hair color has different undertones, it is possible to get a red that will fade more pink than orange, you want a violet based red instead of an orange red

If you're doing red John Frieda has a shampoo/conditioner for red hair.
