Are you applying the product alone under your eyes? Color correcting would cancel out that darkness, then you'd apply a concealer your color ( not lighter ) on top. Usually, if you apply a lighter concealer you bring forward features so you end up accentuating those under eye circles. ( Light brings forward, dark recedes. )
