I got highlights done a few weeks ago and some people have told me that I shouldn't have because it may damage your hair. I did my entire hair and it's a few shades lighter than my natural hair color.

Well any kind of chemical dying damages your hair doesn't it?

Yes @Faith F but I'm wondering if it's very bad.

I think so, most highlights require bleaching. but it's not that big a deal you just have to take care of your hair a little more by doing masks you'll be fine :)

Of course it'll damage your hair, but not overly. I'm assuming they aren't toooo too light which has an effect on how damaged your hair will be. I also find that highlights don't effect the over all health of your hair as much as full head bleaching.

Well It depends on the type of hair.

See, it will cause some damage because hair colours do contain loads of chemicals. But it's nothing that you can't overcome. Apply oil in your hair an hour or two before shampooing and use a sulfate free shampoo. These two things can help you convert dry/damaged hair to soft and healthy hair.

At least what you're doing is better than getting ALL of your hair coloured like so so many other girls are getting done!

Hardly. It's not as bad as dying the whole head. Besides, if you take good care of it, you can easily mend the damage. Just keep it moisturized
