I really like this. How about just going with the flow and invent a braided updo? On my profile you'll find a few examples, unfortunately I don't know how to recreate them but basically I always start by French braiding the front part next to their face, I like to do two braids parted on the side, and then work from there. You can finish the braids and then twist them together, roll them up in a bun, anything really with a few bobby pins and patience!
By the way, here in Italy confirmation is when you're 14!

Erin, it's a Catholic sacrament, like a baptism or a wedding. Both Ireland and Italy are very famous for being mostly Catholic so in our countries we tend to know about these things regardless of our religion! ^_^
