Everyone says that you shouldn't exfoliate everyday, but what do you do about the dry flakes? Face wash type exfoliators do nothing for me and I use a exfoliating facial sponge. But if I don't use it every day, or nearly everyday, the dry flakes on my combination skin are ridiculous. I moisturize my face afterwards.

Bad you should only exfoliate once or twice a week unless your skin is severely dry and flakey exfoliation if done to much can irritate skin and start rubbing your skin raw and it could start to hurt (speaking from experience) I would get a stronger moisturizer or go to a dermatologist if it gets bad.

I agree with Josie. Also exfoliating too much can dry your skin out even more. Do you use any masks, or a different morning/ night moisturiser? I find having a thicker night cream helps a lot. Also the amount of water you consume does make a huge difference! (Experience talking here)

I've heard you should only exfoliate more than once a week if you have oily skin? Maybe the over exfoliation is causing you to be even dryer. I have oily skin and I moisturize daily and everything works perfectly. It could also be another product you're using that's making you dry?

When I get dry spots (I have oily skin), I gently exfoliate that area with a washcloth. I hardly ever exfoliate, only when I notice dry areas that are flaking

Personally, I exfoliate every night with my Clarisonic. What's important is finding a routine that works for your skin. It works for me to exfoliate daily, but for someone else it may not work as well, and that's fine. It's their skin, and if it doesn't work for them, then it doesn't. But everyone's skin is different and the only way to know if something works for you is to try it, but don't knock it until you do so =)

I use a Konjac sponge to exfoliate every night. It's super gentle and keeps flakes at bay. Really it's just a matter of experimentation to find what keeps you flake-free without irritating your skin.

I use an exfoliating face wash thats gentle enough for everyday use because I have blackhead issues and it fights acne as well. I use it AM & PM. It is by garnier fructis
