I have dark lips too, and I find that if you want to go with a lighter color Matte lipsticks work best. They give you full coverage so they hide that natural depth of your lip. Some people choose to put concealer on their lap and then going with any type of Lauster or shiny lipstick or gloss that they want. However, I don't like putting concealer on my lip. You could opt for a staying which would be enough to cover the natural color of your lip or fill in the entire left with a lip pencil and pop a little gloss in the Center of your lip for a little shine.
