I use an ice cube and rub it all over my face till it melts maybe 2-4 times a week. It reduces the amount of pimples you may get and helps refine your pores.

An ice cube is just water... Putting ice cubes on your face won't give any other effect than what splashing cold water in you face will!

Ice should never be directly on the skin. It can cause broken capliries, blood blisters, frostbite etc. It messes with the balance of your skin and just gets to much blood in the face, causing it to be red and may have bad side effects like listed above.
A bottle of water in the fridge spritzed on the face will be good for the skin with no bad side effects.
Pores can't open it close, they can be steamed to loosen what is in the pores, but they do not shrink or expand with warm or cold temperatures.

I prefer cold water than ice. When you wash your face, your pores open up, so its a good idea to rinse it with cold water coz it causes vasoconstriction on your pores. :)
