Need help and recommendations on best options for my skin issues. Last 1year been battling what seems to be cystic acne. :(

I'm 28 and never had difficult skin. Now it's becoming more worse and everything I've used drys my skin out and my skin almost seems to be become more tough.

Please help with any advice, tips, and/or directions of what I should do to treat or understand my skin better! Thank you!

Hi Lesleigh B! Cystic acne is very tough to treat in most cases. I tried creams, lotions and other medications before I got mine under control. My saving grace was birth control pills, drinking tons of water, eating a healthier diet, and getting more sleep at night. I even have a diary app on my phone so that I can vent and release stress.

Most people with acne issues start using more harsh products because their skin is worst. I suggest to do the opposite. Try a water soluble cleanser (on the ingredients water is probably the first but no more than the 3rd or 4th). After cleansing use a toner that doesn't contain alcohol but contains other soothing ingredients like rose water, lavender, etc. Next step is to treat your acne. I suggest a serum or gel that is specific for acne and contains salicylic acid. Lastly make sure you moisturize. Your moisturizer during the day should contain SPF. If your face doesn't hurt so much from the acne, you can try a mask that claims to soothe & hydrate skin while also helping to clear acne (the mask will usually contain sulfur).

Stick to a routine for weeks before trying something different. The constant changing of products can bring an onset of more acne or even worse acne.

Good Luck! Keep us updated on your progress and feel free to ask questions. 😘

I used to have bad acne several years back and nothing seemed to work then I started using these products... first this gentle yet effective cleanser.

I started having a lot of issues with my skin 6 months ago. My doctor prescribed spironolactone and it is perfect now. I could not recommend it enough! My acne was hormonal. There are no side effects at all. So happy with it!

I would go to a dermatologist.

I agree with chris - cystic acne is tough to treat alone and you could spend years trying to find the right products that work for you and you could even make it worse - and since most cystic acne is hormonal your dermatologist/doctor would be your best bet at getting the right product recommendations and treatments
