Should I highlight my hair??

So my hair is very dark brown. I don't know if you can see it in my profile pic. It is also very curly. I was wanting highlights because if it grew out it wouldn't look strange right? And I also just want to lighten it! But I don't know if highlights look strange on naturally curly hair, and I don't like it where the color looks stripey. Basically my hair is a dye virgin and I have no idea what to expect or what to ask for! Does anyone have any tips/tricks/if it's a good idea? Thanks!

Maybe add some caramel slight highlights? Don't go too crazy with it, add like slight lighter highlights! It would look amazing. And please answer my eye question! Thanks!
