So I am wanting to highlight my hair. Currently, my hair is a dark brown color. I use natural shampoo and conditioner, natural hair products, and haven't used a heat tool on 3 years so it is pretty healthy. I was going to use a box kind from the store and was wondering if you guys could let me know anything about dying my hair? I've heard it can change the texture, and since there is some bleach I know it can be quite damaging. But it would be very helpful if you guys could let me know what I'm getting into before I do it! And if you have any tips? Thanks!

I'd say hit up a reputable salon. Seriously...

I completely agree with Rozberry. I personally wouldn't suggest doing this at home especially if you don't really know what you're doing

Also thought I should mention that my mom will be doing the highlighting of my hair since she is experienced with highlighting hair.

I'm surprised your mom isn't using her own products since she's experienced. I don't know...I wish I could help, but highlights can so easily end up looking "frosted" or wreck hair..go brassy...I am hesitant to venture into that with suggestions. :(

I honestly don't recommend box dyes for lightening your hair. It can end up looking brassy or if you are trying to go really light on dark hair, may even look kind of orange. You are best to get it professionally done so you don't have to worry about further damage to the hair and you can get the color results you want! Just my opinion 😊

Chloe, I know it is discouraging to seek advise on a product and be told to pass and I know you are delighted your Mom wants to do them...It's just that many of us have seen the tales of woe and regret from others with kits that are new to the person doing color and have seen damage often. Everyone just wants you to really be happy with it so they are speaking from their gut instinct. I'm sorry I couldn't be of any help, but who knows, maybe you'll get some additional feedback from those who are home pros in this style of coloring. Good luck to you.
