I'm honestly at a lost when it comes to my low porosity, protein sensitive hair. What are some things I should try? What are some routines that are inexpensive?

What is the state of your hair? Is it dry, oily? Processed, damaged, or virgin?

I think you'd do well with a coconut oil treatment, applied perhaps once a week or every two weeks at night. It's great that you were able to understand what kind of hair you have, it really helps with treatments :) are you using any products currently? What shampoo and conditioner? Any masks? I personally love Shea Moisture's moisture retention shampoo. Do you have any issues you'd like to tackle?

Coconut oil acts like a protein, that'll kill my hair.

Hello! here are my suggestions:
-wash with a moisturizing shampoo (use a clarifying shampoo every 4 pr 5washes).
-follow shampoo with a moisturizing rinse out conditionner. then use a leave in (oyin handmade and kinky knot today are great for protein sensitive hair). you can add an oil (jojoba oil or olive almond oil are great and light) to seal in the moisture.
-moisturise every day (or every other day if you sealed in the moisture on wash day) with a light spray like infusium moisture replenisher.
good luck :)

Oh, thanks, I had no idea. I also love olive oil and argan oil, maybe try those and see if they work for you :) definitely let us know what works for you, I'd love to know and see what your favorites are. Good luck with your research! If your hair is curly or textured, you could try checking out naturallycurly.com if you haven't already :)

So hair is made of protein and moisture, and since your protein sensitive, it likely has enough protein. So add moisture. I would do weekly moisturizing masks, and add a moisturizing oil like argon oil, since I believe it has no protein benefits. I'm also protein sensitive if I use anything protein more than once in a month. But add lots of moisture!

My hair is low porosity and protein sensitive and surprisingly plain greek yogurt meets all my hairs needs. coconut and olive as much as I've tried are just too much. Even jojoba oil seems heavy for it. I use sulphate/silicone free cleansers, conditioners and styling products and deep condition with plain greek yogurt using the plastic bag method once a week. I still clarify once a month though
