I've been looking a lot at the loreal true match but I'm not sure if I'm warm or neutral. Does it matter? Please help!

What's the undertone of the foundation you're using now?

Thanks Hayley. The pictures help a lot because at my Walmart they have the foundations up high and I'm short and I can't see the colors if that makes sense? I use maybelline fit me in 125 and Mac Pro longwear in nc 25

If you use Mac's NC (neutral cool) range, try the w (warm) range in the true match. Mac's range on what's cool and what's warm is generally "backwards" compared to other brands, though is the way that's taught in a lot of art classes.

You can also look on findation.com and enter your foundation colors and it'll tell you what should match. :)

Sandra - I'm glad you said that, I'm not super familiar with the numbers of Mac foundations, so I can never tell how light or dark it is, but I was guessing W5 or 6 so at least I'm not too off in my mac guesswork lol :)

If you're wearing a 125 in the maybelline fit me then your undertone is more neutral/pink.
Shades that end in 5 are pinkish/neutral. depending on the exact shade.
125 looks more neutral in my opinion.

I've worn NC25 in that particular formula and it wasn't as yellow compared to their other foundation.

I'd say you're in the "n" range although their definition of neutral is peach. They classify it as a mixture of yellow and pink.

Since you're more in the neutral/some yellow it's a preference thing.
You can go neutral or warm.
Give it a try, if a shade is too neutral you can top it off with a yellow toned powder.
If it's too yellow toned for you, add a neutral powder on top.

I'm an NC30 in MAC and with the Maybelline I was around 210
With L'Oreal I am a W4

I'd say you'd be in the N3 or W3 area

Thank you so much Aurora. When I use the mac foundation I do notice a more yellow and the maybelline isn't yellow. I use the fit me powder as well and a powder from Mac as well in medium from the mineralize. How do you know which powders are yellow toned?

You're welcome :)
Do you mean how to tell by the shade name of a specific brand or the actual color of the powder?

I know MAC has powders in colors like light, medium, dark etc.and those are usually quite neutral and when they aren't it doesn't make much a difference since they're not meant to be used for color but to give a specific look, they're just like setting or touch up powders.
Those ones are tinted because perhaps the ingredients could cause a white cast on others if there wasn't a tad amount of color in them.

The actual shade of the powder?

Ohh okay I see, I've been wearing the basics like powder and mascara for a couple of years but I'm just starting to get into make up so thank you so much Aurora for the help :)

Ohh okay well there are powder that are just straight up pale yellow that you could get.

I know NYX has two one called the Color Correcting Loose Powder in Banana

They also have a pressed HD powder in Banana
Then there's the famous Ben Nye Banana Powder, MAC has a pro setting powder in yellow or maybe it's called Soft Yellow.
Then Benefit has a powder called Bluff Dust that's also a soft yellow.

As far as regular powders, grab a few in the shop and compare them. Grab some that are around the same darkness and you'll notice they'll have different tones.

Some will have a neutral tone (beige)
Some will have a pink color (cool toned)

Others may be"warm toned"
But not all warm toned people are the same, there are like subgroups in my opinion that aren't always mentioned but you can notice sometimes

Ex there's peach/honey toned it's considered "warm yellow tone"

There's just a yellow tone where it's not peachy and not green

Then there's a cool toned yellow that is yellow but leans slightly into green (olive skintones)

Good examples of a cool toned yellow color is the Makeup Forever foundation in 118 and 123.

Then there's just yellow like shade 127 from the same company.

And of course more peachy/honey toned stuff which I find is more common in drugstore liquid foundations for the most part

Wow I never payed attention to the different tones till right now when I went to Walmart I noticed. Thank you so much Aurora, I definitely know now to pay more attention and compare products. I got the true match in N3 and I'm so excited to test it out, I'm hoping I like it :) thank you so much for the help!
