So, I started out with ombre in my hair, bleached of course, and has been in my hair since last July. I decided to color my hair red. so I bought the colour, put it in and now the ends of my hair are a pinky red color and I am quite unhappy. should I try put a darker red in? I can't really afford a salon so any tips would be appreciated.

Your bleached ends are too porous and won't retain color.

You need to get a protein conditioner to even out the porosity, fill the bleached ends with a base color that matches the non-bleached ends, and then go over it with the red.

So if I put a treatment in it like overnight and go in with the same color again it should match up ok?

Do a color zap that will remove the color from your hair safely (but it smells nasty!) its about 13$ at sallys. And than a color corrector to get the shades even and then dye it red :)

No...if you put the same color in, your ends will still be lighter, although it will be more red and not pink.

If you were painting a wall, what would happen if one section were black and the other section were white and you painted over them both with red? The portion with black underneath would be darker, no? Hair color isn't completely solid - the color you have underneath affects the end result.

You have to fill your bleached ends with your base color, otherwise it will always be two different shades.

Ok, makes sense. I think I'll just put the closest to my base all over, which is brown and just work on getting the condition of my hair better. I know there will probably be a red hue underneath but that's definitely more bearable than this. Is that do-able?

Yes, that's doable. The red tone will fade out pretty quickly on its own. You can use a remover if you want, but it will do some damage and I don't think you really need to. Just even out the color and condition the ends with protein. In a couple of weeks you can do red without problems.
