My nails are really weak, and thin. They split and crack really easily, and sometimes they flake too. What's a good way to get them stronger and healthier?

Massage regularly, as many times a day as possible, with almond oil :)

Make sure to moisturize hands and cuticles often. Also, always have something on yours nails. If you dont want your nails painted atleast wear a strengthener. Sally Hansen is a good brand for healthier nails(:

Payton, I don't think painting your nails all the time will help. Nail polish is poisonous...

im sorry, but nail polish is not poisonous. and to dispel another myth, nails don't need to breathe. u can wear polish as often as u like. although nail polish remover is drying so try and limit that as much as u can. moisturise often, drink lots of water. don't bite or pick them! and a good cuticle oil will help.

Hey Allie(: You may have misunderstood. I said its good to have something on your nails always because polish strengthens weak nails. But if the polish your using is poisonous, i'd discontinue use. So basically what i meant by that was that your nails are more prone to breakage without anything on them, where as nail polish strengthens them. Hope you understand now(:

I have the same problem thanks to a dry workplace & using chalk at the gym on my hands. Just gotta fight back with hydration. Also Burt's Bees Lemon cuticle butter (found at drugstores) is a quick fix to make them look better, and I'm currently trying Body Shop Almond hand lotion which seems to keep the nails stronger as they grow out. My manicures always look like crap because the ends of my nails themselves will chip/flake off. I feel your pain!

Alright, I didn't mean poisonous in the typical sense, just thought it wouldn't be that great as it's full of chemicals. I had been painting them regularly but then they just got so bad that it wasn't worth doing anymore. I have Sally Hansen xtreme wear on at the moment so hopefully it'll make a difference.

I wish I could. I'm lactose intolerant.

Eat healthy. File your nail, don't clip. Remember to file in one direction. If you don't have the time, clip them when they are wet, or right after a shower.
