I'm not the expert on weaves by any means, but doesn't it involve sewing into a braid?
Braiding will protect your hair from further damage since you're not straightening it, applying product, physically moving it around, etc. I don't see how, logically, a sew-in weave would further damage your hair as long as no glue or bonding would be involved.
Just my 2c, but I don't know any more about it than I've watched on bits and pieces of that show with Kim Kimball.

I agree with Stephanie and also be mindful of how the sew in is done. Make sure who ever does it, they dont mix too much synthic hair for braiding, that your braids are not too tight. Also, sewing make sure there's not too much tention with thread.
