I just got blond highlights in my brown hair and I don't like them. They are brassy and uneven. I can't afford to go back to my stylist. Would it be crazy to try fixing this myself?
I might try purple shampoo/toner, but I also want to get rid of some of the highlights. Are there semi-permanent cool-toned dyes at Walmart (the only store near me)? I don't have time to hunt around and read labels, planning to dart in there after work, get the right crap, and get home to my baby :)

If you try a purple shampoo to tone down the brassiness, let the shampoo set on the hair for a minute before you rinse. That way it has time to penetrate the hair shaft. I use Shimmering Lights from Sally Beauty.

Thanks! if I end up covering some of the highlights with a semi permanent, can I still use the purple shampoo to tone down the remaining highlights?

Clairol Brass-Free Brunette may be a more readily available option...I've never seen the product that Katie mentioned.

Try lemon juice. Simply rub it in where affected and when dry, rinse out with cold water. Best of luck, hope it helped!

Robin, how'd it work out for you? I'm trying to get use to the high lites in my dark hair also. I'm not liking them!
