Apply liquid liner and top it off with gel? For me it's hard to create a clean line with my Mac fluid line so I start with just a cheap felt tip like a nyx or a Revlon and then go over it for staying power annnnd to make it darker

I used to line with a pencil and then top off with liquid eyeliner when I first started using eyeliner. Now I just use liquid.

I guess it depends on how comfortable you are with applying it.

always use a steady hand by planting your elbow on a flat surface. that helps create a clean line. I learned how to be comfortable then I didn't need to use a flat surface anymore. it became a second nature :)

also, an angled eyeliner brush is amazing for making cat eye lines. angled brushes get your hand out of the way so you can see what your doing better.

I have went over pencil with liquid for a more defined look but not the other way around...I don't really see a benefit in that.
