Beauty Product Reviews
I own this mascara in black, and I have to say I really like it. I'll start with the positive first, I find this mascara does give my lashes volume, not necessarily as dramatic as Covergirl claims, but decent enough that my lashes are noticeable even behind my glasses lens. When I'm wearing this mascara I do get a lot of compliments on my lashes from people, and it feels great. It's such an awesome everyday staple mascara for me. It gives just the right amount of volume to my lashes and works with any eye look, whether it be dramatic or natural. This mascara also does an excellent job of separating my lashes. I have the worst time with clumping because my lashes are so long and fine in texture, but with this mascara there are absolutely no clumps in sight. This mascara is also very buildable, and can be layered over or under other mascaras to achieve the perfect look you're going for. The only complaint I have about this mascara is the wand, it ends at a very blunt end, and I have poked myself several times in the eye with it. Wish Covergirl would redesign it and make the end taper off into a nice shape, then maybe I wouldn't poke myself in the eye as much! But besides that minor packaging flaw, the mascara is still great, and I find the plastic bristles create a unique effect to my lashes and are what do the best job of separating my lashes like mentioned above. Definitely worth the money, and I would repurchase again, one of the better drugstore mascaras out there!
When I first bought this mascara, I loved it-and I still do. I have very long, not so thick eyelashes, and most of the time mascara just clumps them together. I didn't have that problem with this mascara. The wand is amazing, it seperated my lashes fairly well, and gave them a natural voluminous look. Perfect for everyday wear. I didn't have any problems with clumping or flaking. As for removal, this mascara came off very easily with a little soap and water. To me, this is the perfect mascara, no clumps, no flakes, I definitely have to say this mascara lives up to its product claims.
Had high hopes, very disappointed.
I bought this eyeliner in shade eggplant. I had been looking for a good, deep purple gel liner for a long time to just put on when I felt like having a lazy day with makeup. Well, this wasn't it. I had high hopes for this product, seeing as many other people had raved about it-I basically wasted my money. First off, the pigmentation was horrible, not even close to being as dark as the swatch of it on the packaging. Secondly, it had a ton of silvery/purple sparkles in it, I was looking for a matte dark purple eyeliner. And third, the formula left much to be desired, I tried to apply the product to my eyelid, and the line came out very splotchy and uneven. And the color barely even showed up. Also, the eyeliner was quite thick and somewhat hard when I tried to get it out of the pot and onto the brush that was included with it. The only plus I have about it, is that it lives up to its longwear/waterproof claim, when I tried to take it off with a little bit of soap and water, it wouldn't budge. Honestly, I'd save my money and splurge on a higher end brand of gel eyeliner than wasting 10$ on this lackluster immitation.
I have this in "Purely Plum" and I have to say, I really like it. The thing I like most about this blush, is that it has 3 shades instead of just 1. I found this gave me the freedom to mix and match each shade to different looks, but to also mix 2 or even all 3 of the shades together to create a custom color to go with any look. I found this blush blends nicely, and would look good on light-medium skin tones, or perhaps someone with a cooler undertone to their skin. Though I found it works, and looks equally as nice on me, with my warmer undertoned skin. The blush does have a bit more shimmer than I normally prefer, but I think the shimmer helps give me a more natural glow in summer than it would in winter. The pigmentation of the blush is somewhat sheer, so if you want a bolder blush look, you'd have to layer the blush on a bit. Overall, I think this blush is a great find at the drugstore and is unbeatable for the price. I will defintely be repurchasing it when I run out.
I bought this eyeliner in the black shade(can't remember the name) and when I first put it on, I loved it. It was very dark, and intense, and lasted on my waterline for quite awhile(6 hours I think). It didn't really smudge once it set and lasted pretty much all day. The only con is, I honestly thought it was a twist up pencil due to its packaging design. So when the tip began to run out, I didn't know what to do. I did read somewhere that you're supposed to sharpen it like a normal pencil eyeliner. That being said, I lost nearly half of my eyeliner to sharpening, due to the fact the tip of the eyeliner kept breaking off. So that was unfortunately about 9$ wasted. I also read somewhere that if you pop it in the fridge for awhile, to let it firm up, that it's much easier to sharpen. So perhaps if I get up the courage to repurchase this eyeliner I will try that. Overall though, I do believe the eyeliner is a good product, blendable, smooth, highly pigmented and long lasting. Just be careful when sharpening it.
I own two of these single shadows(shades "Swiss Chocolate and "Shimmering .Onyx"), I have to say, I quite like them. They are shimmery yes, but if you blend them evenly, you can make the shimmer somewhat disappate. I find that the shades I have, have pretty decent pigmentation, they're not too highly pigmented so they can be worn for day, and if you layer them on or use them wet you can make them more intense for night. I've found both shades are quite versatile and can be worn for any occasion, or time of year, if applied correctly. I've found that "Shimmering Onyx" can be a great crease color, to an otherwise matte or somewhat normal smoky eyeshadow look, I find it gives an extra kick or pop without being too over the top. I also enjoy pairing it with brighter colors to give some depth to my eyes, while also making a bright smoky eye more night time wearable. Overall, I think these shadows are great, the formula is good, the pigmentation is buildable and wearable and the for the price, it makes these a great find.
I've had I think 4 of these quads, and I loved them all. As others have mentioned, sometimes the quads can be hit or miss. The pigmentation can be quite sheer, so if you are a beginner, you have the freedom to perhaps mess up a bit and have your mistakes not be too noticeable. But, if you're more experienced, the key to getting the eyeshadows to work, is 1. having a good eyeshadow base(always helps with eyeshadow staying power and pigmentation I've found) and 2. Using them wet. Some of the shades in the quads, when used wet, will clump up a bit, but with practice you can overcome this problem. Honestly, I think there is a great shade selection of quads to choose from, and anyone of any experience level can learn to use them, and use them well. There's just enough variety in the shade range that you can create any sort of look, either from just using all the shades in one quad, or mixing and matching shades from 2 or 3 different quades(like I often do). I actually do like the fact that the texture of the shadows isn't too soft, nor too hard. So I've found if you're careful, they won't break easily. A lot of the shades are shimmery, which is somewhat of a shame for those who like to do more matte looks...but if you keep your eyes peeled and look closely, you can see that in some of the quads(the "Berries & Cream" and "Coffe Shop" quads come to mind) do have some matte shades in them, with a tinge of very fine glitter particles, that I've found don't really show up when applied. Overall, I think these quads can be great, are very wearable and versatile, and are perfect for any skill level whether it be beginner, to a makeup guru, or even a professional makeup artist. And for the price, these are perfect.
Not what I thought it would be.
This foundation, I've found doesn't live up to its claims and hype. I got this foundation in 2009, along with Trublend Liquid Make Up; and it too, clogged my pores. Just the same as its liquid counterpart did. I bought the mineral version of its liquid counterpart to use as a setting powder and give me some extra coverage. Well, all this loose mineral powder foundation did was make my face look cakey. It didn't blend nicely at all, and looked really streaky. The brush was extremely stiff, and not soft at all, which made blending difficult on my super sensitive skin. The brush irritated my skin a bit because it wasn't soft. The loose mineral foundation made my skin irritated as well, and only accentuated my mild acne at the time. I wouldn't buy this foundation again, or recommend it to anyone with sensitive skin, as it may irritate it as well. I'd also warn people with acne prone skin to think twice before trying it as well, because it only accentuated my acne blemishes at the time; instead of giving me a flawless look.
Not the greatest, saddly.
I got this foundation back in 2009(during summer) when my skin was a couple shades darker due to being in the sun, and natural tanning. This foundation, unfortunately did not work for me at all. It made me break out like crazy, and looked really oily on my skin. It clogged my pores terribly. One thing most people don't know, is that Covergirl products(especially their foundations, powders, bronzers, and blushes) have Noxema in them. (Yes, that's what gives them that weird smell.) Anyways, if you're someone like me who has really sensitive skin, Noxema can wreak havoc on your skin. So, having noxema in this foundation, not only made me breakout but it made my skin burn as I put it on. And when I took it off at the end of the day, my skin was very red, it looked like I got sunburned on my face. Also, as I've found with most Covergirl foundations, the color shades are a bit off. Their site recommended "Soft Honey" for me at the time, when really I was probably "Creamy Natural" or "Natural Beige". Honestly, I wouldn't recommend this foundation to anyone with sensitive or acne prone skin. The coverage isn't very promising either, it is very light, and at best buildable enough to medium coverage. But I found, the more of this you put on, the cakier it looked on me. Not a great foundation at all in my opinion.
Love them!
I have owned 5 of these glosses(all in different shades) and I have to say, I really love them all. The ones I have currently are "Guava Splash"(soft, light pink), "Papaya Splash"(light, reddy-orange with gold shimmer), and "Raspberry Splash"(medium, cool toned pink). The formula is great in my opinion. It's really shiny and glossy, and not extremely sticky. Which is always a plus. I find these glosses have decent pigmentation, not too much and not too little. So I find it makes them versatile enough to be worn alone, or over a lipstick or lipbalm depending on the occasion/season/time of year. Overall, I think there is a wide enough shade selection that anyone from any skintone could find a shade that would work for their complexion. These lipglosses do have a somewhat strong scent, but it's a fruity smell that to me is quite pleasant. The scent in some of them, actually kind of does smell like real fruit, and not that fake berryish scent that is found in some other lip products. I find myself consistently repurchasing the shade "Raspberry Splash" as it is to me, my perfect medium pink gloss shade. I find these lipglosses can be very moisturizing and do not accentuate the dryness, or chapped condition of my lips when they are chapped. I also like the squeeze tube design of the product as well, I've found that you can get every last drop of product of the tube. There are only two minor cons that I find with this product, and they are: 1. that the gloss does wear off rather quickly(1-2hours) especially if you talk a lot, or have something to eat/drink while wearing it. And 2. the glosses do tend to seperate if you leave them sitting in one position for too long. But, that problem can be easily remedied by turning it on the opposite side of the original position, or shaking the tube, or squeezing it with the lid on it to mix the product back together. All in all, I really do love these glosses, the formula is very nice, they are very wearable, and they smell amazing, and for the price you can't beat it!
