Beauty Product Reviews
The jury is still out
Love the dropper on their products. I got this specifically for undereye puffiness. But I don't really notice a difference after a month's use, day and night. I apply an eye cream afterward, honestly for more moisture but I get better/instant results since using my Olehenricksen Night transforming gel a couple weeks now, it just zaps my underye puffiness (I don't know why, it doesn't say anything about this effect and I didn't buy it for that reason) so I don't see myself repurchasing this eye serum as that works well for me and I haven't seen any noticeable results.
I don't have much darkness so I can't comment on that, but I was hoping it would help with the puffiness I get sometimes. It's not particularly moisturizing so I would recommend an eye cream over it. Also it doesn't disturb my concealer, absorbs easily. Reasonably priced, so, I don't feel super bummed. But overall, I wasn't that impressed. I am currently mixing this with another serum I have. Whether or not that will improve it's effectiveness I don't know. Puffiness tip: At night after I apply an eyecream I usually dab some Vaseline over (to lock in moisture) Keeps puffiness down while sleeping.
Adequate but nothing special
This primer is ok. I purchased this from asos.com after seeing Wayne Goss' review on it. I was a little disappointed. I don't see a huge difference between this and my elf primer. Or just a mattifying moisturizer. So it's definitely not going to replace any of my other low to high end primers. Biggest issue is that after it sets I am able to roll away some of the product. You can't actually see it. I just wipe it off with my fingers its like excess and I dont apply that much I would recommend patting it on. All of my products/foundations are silicone based so it's not user error. The texture reminds me of maybelline blur primer. Like a thin lotion but not runny texture. It doesn't separate my foundation or effect the wear of it. I prefer Sebiums pore refiner works great. I just think there are better alternatives for cheaper or a few bucks more even. I wouldn't purchase again unfortunately because it doesn't do anything special for me. But the price is good so it wasn't a waste.
Natural Looking Full Coverage
This foundation covers all my blemishes and hyperpigmentation. It is creamy and buildable its also the only foundation that works best with just my moisturizer and no primer. I am on the oily side so it does tend to come through I just don't like the finish I got with using my primer. This product is different from any other foundation. It clings better to my neutrogena oil free moisturizer for combo skin than primer. It just melts in. I set with the rcma no color powder which is amazeballs. The main con would be color selection. I ordered samples of the Shinto line since its the only one with yellow undertones and I honestly couldn't really tell between shinto 4 and 5 but I might get 5 to mix. Also I am getting a tan so... I would recommend speaking with a beauty advisor if you don't order samples from rcma. Also some people complained about the difficulty in applying this foundation it's pretty simple. Warm it up on the skin or palette and use a brush or DRY sponge. Its wax based so how people use a damp beauty blender is beyond me but whatever works. I would repurchase this but I might buy a couple more samples first.
A Full Coverage Miracle
I have tried a lot of foundations. I ordered a few samples in the Shinto Line from RCMA's website ($1 each. Shinto is yellow based) and decided to place an order for the full size (well, .75 oz). I still have some left in the small sample container after 3 full uses. This foundation covers ALL my hyperpigmentation, which honestly is not that much but liquid foundations never could seem to cover it and concealer does a good job but I don't need it with a few taps of this and my hyperpigmentation and blemishes are concealed. I don't even need it under my eyes. I saw this first when Wayne Goss raved about it on his You but I really do not like buying foundation I can't "see" so getting samples is awesome. I am in the shade Shinto 4, much to my surprise I thought it was too light after trying 5 and 6, but it really brings out the yellow undertones and matches the colors in my neck/chest. It's amazing. I have combo/oily skin and I didn't know how my skin would react to this wax based foundation. IT LOVES IT. I always wanted that No makeup Makeup look with full coverage effect, and I can sheer it down. I didn't really know that existed and it's only $18. I can apply this with my fingers or a brush or non latex sponge. I sometimes use my Beautyblender, but honestly not when it's wet because it just doesn't make sense to use water with a wax/oil based foundation to me it seems like it would separate. I warm it up on the back of my hand, and It just spreads like butter, melts into the skin for a really beautiful skin-like finish. It doesn't set until you set it so you have plenty of time. It's super buildable. I set with their No Color Powder (I reviewed that miracle as well). This is my HG foundation, I just never thought I would fall so in love with a foundation and at this price point??? I like that at the end of a 16 hour workday, my skin doesn't look oily, or fading or cakey. It just looks like my skin but better, yes a little faded but not in a bad way. I use moisturizer and Bioderm Pore Refiner on my Tzone to prep, and I am good to go. I have never NOT used a regular primer with a foundation. It's a foundation/concealer in one for me. It's a very low maintenance product.
Best Powder
I have tried numerous "Invisible powders" but they all change the color of my foundation which I HATED. I mean, I am brown, I know there's no such thing as "invisible powder". I just recently purchased some foundation from RCMA after receiving some samples. and I have to say WOW WOW WOW WOW. Why is there almost NO hype about this brand. It is amazing and inexpensive. No fancy packaging or inflated advertising but who cares, This powder has NO pigment, so I set my face and I don't have to "bring color back into my face" with another powder or what have you. You have to shake the powder onto something but I mean, ladies, or gents, it's Soooo worth it. I can't BELIEVE I was paying almost $40 for my favorite "invisible powder." I mean, I can put this in a small container, and after I blot once during my day I can retouch with some of this without looking like a ghost. Where has this brand been all my life. You cannot beat the quality for this price. I have yet to find anything better than this and I have tried just about all Major brands. And get it while you can because it sells out so fast.
Best Universal Highlighter
Although I do wish I had bought this in the PRESSED formula it's still my favorite highlighter. I think it applies best with fingers (which is why I think I would like the powder) Its very creamy and never looks fake or metallic like some other brands. It's also WOC friendly which is hard to find unless you're fair skinned and being medium brown, a lot of times it's just hit or miss.
I purchased the Natasha Denona highlighter in Medium (recommended with my foundation color) I had to go back to this one because even though I really liked that one at first I now wish I would have returned it for the Becca in powder form because the N.D. one is very Cool Toned and I don't know why that would be recommended for brown skin but whatev. This Becca highlighter doesn't break me out and it really lasts a long time even though I get oily . It's a lovely product, looks natural. I would purchase again for its natural glow.
Great as a primer and oil control
I have oily skin and this works better than any primer and makes my skin feel really great. It also doesn't break me out. I can't wait to try the other products in this line.
Subtle Natural Glow
I ordered this in Shade medium, while the other products in the glow system didn't work into my routine (mainly the foundation because of the shade and the #19 brush) This is pretty nice. It's a very understated glow, not like my Becca highlight which I love. The medium shade is kind of an odd shade, it looks really cooltone, it's also not as fine as my Becca opal and not as shimmery which is a good thing. It's glowy without that weird fake sparkle which can look very fake on brown skintones but this is pretty subtle. and yet noticeable. And I love the packaging.
Not very Glowy
This feels, smells and looks like a tinted moisturizer and not much else. I was completely captivated by Natasha Denona's video and the glowy models. I think the effect looks amazing on the fair skintones but the shade 80 Dark, (The lightest of the brown) it didn't look like I was glowing or glammed up. I like her highlighter, very subtle and pretty but my search will continue for a "glowy" foundation that doesn't look greasy and for the price point, I was hoping the effect would look equally as nice in the darker colors. I'll have to return it but I purchased it on Flexible Payment Schedule so I'll have to see how returns work for that. It was my first purchase with Beautylish, so I hope I can return and order something that works better.
Sheds
I just ordered this brush and was so excited to use this but unfortunately It shed on first use. I thought, okay, that's one little hair then I realized the little hairs came out each time I dragged this brush across my face. I have pretty clear skin I don't need a lot of coverage, but the idea of having to pick brush hairs off my face--I had to eventually switch back to my beauty blender. I have cheaper brushes that don't do this, I was really confused. This was part of my first purchase from Beautylish and Natasha Denona. I will have to return this, the quality was so very disappointing.
