This is the second look that I did for two local designers- Ruth Abade and Sheila Amolo. It may seem weird that I used one look for two rather different collections, but it ended up working very well for both. For this look, I decided to really focus on creating a strong cheek since this singular aspect of the makeup would create a stark contrast, while also complementing both collections beautifully. I also focused on a strong and bright cheek to negate the stereotype that women of dark skin tones cannot wear bright blushes- it works!

Sheila was inspired by Japanese Manga comics and cartoons, using bright and airy fabrics in vivid colours such as luminous green and brilliant blues, vivid and bright yellows, and deep cobalts in her collection. I felt as though a strong pink cheek would complement the clothing, providing a striking divergence from the typical African leanings towards subtle, safer looks.
Ruth's collection was gorgeous- body-hugging outfits that absolutely flattered Hivita's feminine curves. I felt that a strong cheek would provide significant contrast to the clothes, without really taking away from the collection's overarching directive. The rest of Hivita's face was toned down, where I used earthy colours that worked to beautifully offset the strong blush and provide a seamless link to the collection.
As always, I had an amazing time working with Hivita, and with the ChicoLeco and Nest crews.
