Here's my hair journey for 2012. I've learned a lot about my hair this year, experimented with color & hair styles, trimmed when needed, and stumbled upon(grown addicted to) the awesome hair community on youtube. I hope this inspires others to keep track of their progress as I have.

Here's my hair journey for 2012. I've learned a lot about my hair this year, experimented with color & hair styles, trimmed when needed, and stumbled upon(grown addicted to) the awesome hair community on youtube. I hope this inspires others to keep track of their progress as I have.
[things I always do no matter what month/season] Deep condition, put in a leave in conditioner, oil my scalp, wear a satin bonnet.
January- I began using natural products. I used the Shea Moisture brand (Moisture retention shampoo and conditioner on recommendation from a friend. Didn't really notice a difference.) I likes the Curl enhancing smoothie, but found that it left white clumps in my hair.
February- Finished up the Shea Moisture products. Still had an itchy scalp and flaking.
March- Noticed white clumps still and matting of my hair. Realized I wasn't rinsing my conditioner thoroughly nor was I detangling properly. Added a tangle teezer knockoff to my routine.
April- Cut off a couple of inched of dead ends. Started anew.
May- Wore my hair out/in a crazy fro for the first time. Used Aloe Vera Gel for a gentler hold.
June- Still wore my hair out mostly. Used a heat protectant since I was out in the sun a lot.
July- Discovered the amazing usefulness of Castor oil. It had stopped the itching of my scalp completely. Straightened my hair, trimmed.
August- Dyed my hair an Auburn color. Wasn't satisfied (my hair doesn't take to color well) So I dyed it again with Loreal HiColor Professional dyes from Sally's. The color took better, but I realized I didn't have enough for all of my hair. So a few weeks later I dyed it again. (I know, I know, don't curse me out.) The color finally showed this time.
September- After straightening and trimming, I experimented with various styles, frohawk, cinnabun, wash N go's, twistouts. I basically had fun with my hair. Invested in the real tangle teezer, that cut down detangling time a lot.
October- Had more fun experimenting with styles for my Halloween looks.
November- Successfully Straightened my hair. Took note of the progress thus far. Trimmed. Invested in the Denman brush, have decided to only use it on straight hair.
December- I dyed my hair again. (Only the front and middle sections.) The front is a lighter coppery tone, and the middle is red. I've decided to leave the back section of my hair the auburn tone. My ends look dead again, I blame the color as well as the tangle teezer. I've incorporated a double rowed comb into my routine and giving the tangle teezer a break. Since I've dyed it so much recently, I've decided to wear it in protective styles 95% of the time, moisturize daily, co-wash only, mix in a little protein, trim as needed, and participate in SistaWithRealHair's no heat 6 month challenge. I want to restore the health of my hair so that I may reach my goal for my birthday in May 2013.
(I trimmed the 28th of December to start off the new year fresh. The ends were raggedy and dead and I estimate about a quarter of an inch to an inch was trimmed.)
