This video was sparked as a response to the wonderful Wayne Godd (gossmakeupartist) here on YouTube, who recently uploaded a video on the EU ban on animal testing. So what does this ban mean for cruelty free shoppers? Can we shop guilt free at MAC, Bobbi Brown, L'Oreal?? My answer to that is no.

All products sold in the EU will from now on be cruelty free, the formulations, ingredients will not be tested on animals. However, the companies will still be selling their animal-tested formulations elsewhere in the world, especially China where animal testing is required by law.
For me, I this ban changes nothing. Yes, it is an EXCELLENT step towards eliminating animal testing for good. However, this does not mean that I will be supporting 'testing' companies or their subsidiaries. The products may be cruelty free, but the companies still have blood on their hands, so to speak, and I can't support that.
It's up to individual consumers to make the decisions for themselves, so while you may feel that this ban gives you a green card to buy 'guilt-free' from these companies, I disagree. Using the ban as a means to escape your 'guilt' will not mean that animal testing has stopped, merely that it is now happening elsewhere. Animals are still suffering and dying at the hands of these companies.
If you care about animal welfare, do not use this ban as a shield to hide behind. Do your research and choose companies who are dedicated to animal welfare and alternatives to animal testing. I recommend the Leaping Bunny's website as the most comprehensive list of Cruelty Free companies on the market.
