Slam Poem? Spoken Word? Here are the words.
In Between Fat and Lean: A celebration of my body and all bodies.
(This is how they're written.)
From a young age I followed the wise old adage,
"Little in the middle but she got much back."
And little did I know that the F.A.T in ferociously attractive
Was being miscontrued as a curse word in the cross words
of newspapers mud slinging with a strong arm of the media and
false friends looking out for our 'health' and not look out for their own.
My body is not a criminal,
And his body is not a bank robber,
And her body is not a rapist,
So I gotta wonder where all these police came from,
Because a fat body is not breaking a law,
And a thin body is not a crime,
And a curvy body did not just shoot up 7 11 in the dead of night.
So why do all of these minds ne to be arrested in the though of--
or invested in the time to,
project and protect that only 'thin' is in.
I do not see a badge on your chest that allows you to protest
against the jiggle in my arms and the muscle in my legs.
I should not hide my waistline behind bars,
Just because I like to consume jars of nutella and hot fudge with a spoon of my choosing.
I like my milkshakes with a high density like the width and weight of my hips,
The 10/12 kind,
And even though I am told to shop plus-size,
I am not the only one who sees the puls side,
in having thick thighs.
Because when I make love it doesn't look like two sticks making fire,
but it certainly contains passions and heat--
That rivals stove tops and suncores,
I have more cushion than a Lay-Z-Boy.
And even if he's a lazy boy it wont hurt his hip bones,
when my fat ass crashes down on them.
We don't need to be told to not feed our egos when we scream out,
FAT POWER because I'm sure that my soul is not
Hunching over while walking down the run way.
Why do we drop the stigmas and take a look at the stats,
You can forget your facts while I order a flat bread--
sandwich from Dunkins at 3 AM.
I identify as fat!
Whether or not the shape of my body exudes it.
My soul is vast,
My love is HUGE,
My heart weighs a ton...
I don't have a 'fat girl' personality--
I JUST HAVE A GOOD ONE.
And that skinny girl isn't a bitch just because she is thin,
take a minute to swim to the deep end and forget your preconditioned thoughts.
This is the real world,
And your body is BEAUTIFUL, girl,
just give up the hate and celebrate it.
I'll bring the cake to your party.
