This is a collaboration look that I did with the lovely and talented, Klaire de Lys. The expressive look is inspired by the culture and artwork of the Aztec people. Instead of using modern eyeshadows and shimmering colors I tried to use makeup that might have been more similar to what they used in their time -- something more like cream colors or face paint.

=== MORE ABOUT THE AZTECS ===
The Ancient Aztecs were a powerful civilization but was ruled through fear. They are remembered for their richly colorful culture -- feathers, bronze, golds, intricate patterns, yellows, reds, greens, body paint, ear pieces, sharp, angular shapes, mosaics and beaded accessories and statues and paintings with very lively postures. They had great reverence for animals like the jaguar, snake and the eagle.
However they had greatest reverence for the sun and moon and this was their core reason for taking part in blood sacrifices, a practice that is commonly associated with the Mayans and Aztecs. They believed that they were in an endless "blood debt" to the gods so in hopes to avoid earthly disaster, they sacrificed humans, animals and took part in blood-letting (cutting themselves to bleed) with the intention of pleasing the gods. They believed that without giving blood, the sun would not rise everyday.
To them, music was viewed as a way of passing on culture, understanding religion and making emotional connections with life alongside general enjoyment. Their music consisted of a mix of drums, rattles, flutes, vocals and dance.
