With this method I am usually done the whole process from start to finish between 5.5 and 6 hours including wash and drying time. I don't get my hands wet really and my brushes are clean and conditioned. I don't use fancy things to do this. I use normal every day items for the cleaning solution.

The only thing I do use that is specialized is the brush guards for my fluffy brushes and my face brushes that need to keep their shape. I bought mine very inexpensively from an eBay seller. They have been out for a few years so you should be able to find some good deals on the. I have had mine for about 2 years and I just reuse them time and again so even the $10 investment for a pack of two becomes even cheaper the longer you're able to use them still.
I have also never had a problem using this method and ruining my brushes. They don't fray out, they don't shed horrible after. I do recommend NOT soaking them in the solution for a longer period of time than 5-10 minutes because it can creep up into the ferrule and loosen the glue if you wait too long to wash it out.
