A complex photoshoot fully inspired by Helena Bonham Carter's portrayal of Bellatrix Lestrange.
Designed, styled, shot & edited by Audivila Photography.
Shot in August 2010 ~ photos finished and released November 19, 2010 ... purposely during the opening of the Harry Potter DH Part 1 movie!
This video was made to show as well as I could, the general process for having to plan a photo shoot in terms of meeting with the models prior, finding a location, choosing clothes, scheduling, concept sketches, set up and all the makeup and hair business the day of and the process of taking photos. However, with much modesty not even all that is portrayed in this lengthy video! It's crazy how much ahead-of-work time is needed to put into planning just to produce some final photos.
This is my third photo shoot to ever plan, style & execute. I chose Bellatrix as my theme because the model had a liking already to the character, I had a liking to the character and you know how I love black dresses, dark themes, magic and heavy makeup :)
I watched clips of Bellatrix and looked up promotional photos of her to figure out the makeup look that I would use to represent her. Ultimately I chose to stick with greens and black for the eyes and rogue, blackish lips. No shimmer or blush or glitter ~ just a lot of facial contouring to replicate Helena's very intense bone structure. Ultimately I ended up filming a Halloween makeup tutorial of the same style of makeup I used in this photo shoot, except with myself as the model. You can learn how to do this makeup here! -

Back to the photo shoot ~ my friend Vilma and I met with Melina at her house to try on clothes, see what she had, have her try on the accessories and clothes I was providing, do trial makeup and see how her hair was so we'd have an idea on how to style it on the actual shooting day. Thankfully she owns a very beautiful poofy black dress, a black tutu and heeled black boots that fit the look just perfectly. I provided the lace shirt, the corset, the spidery tights, the necklace, wand and about everything else. The wand is indeed from Harry Potter world @ Universal Studios!
On actual shooting day we started at about 9:30 AM and finished taking photos for Bellatrix indoors around about 1 or 2 PM from what I remember. I did my Pretty Little Liars photo shoot the same day so she got a break as I did makeup on the other girls then we took the outdoor pictures. She then had to switch up her outfit and model for the PLL photo shoot too!
As an avid Harry Potter fan she had the attitude and facial expressions down and we all had loads of fun. There were other girls and guys there too for the other photo shoot and to help out .
I'm still new to photography and makeup but this was all for fun as all these people are just my friends. But I hope to maybe get more professional in the future and maybe do this freelance or for an agency.
I really truly worked very hard on this entire project in all aspects possible so I am very glad to be able to share it with you today.
I really have to thank all of my friends that helped - Jess, for helping film and Mariah as well with helping film the process and working the fog machine and helping with poses and facial expressions. Vilma of course for being there to seriously help tease and curl and style all of the model's hair and pitch in to help with makeup when I was rushing around. Alejandrooo for being so patient, Jenna and Narissa for being fun and supportive during her shoot and of course Melina the model for going through all this running and corset wearing and nonsense... thank you all.
