A discussion fired up by the Pennsylvania State University scandal.
Ultimately Jerry Sandusky is responsible for committing monstrous acts against vulnerbale children. I also think that the university has a lot of explaining to do. In no way shape or form should we now be hearing about this story. The information should have been given to the authorities (i.e police) to handle. Pedophiles are a menace to society and their ability to maneuver in and out of people's lives with no one being the wiser is an epidemic that must be stifled. As for the witness that told coach Joe Paterno, I can understand the discomfort that comes with actually witnessing something like that. And I can understand that he just didn't know what to do. But he called and spoke to someone who advised him speak to someone in a position of authority. I could wish all I want that he actually stepped in but not all of us have the gusto to stand up in the face of adversity. This is why it's important that this headline doesn't get buried in the midst of trivial stories. We have too shine a light on a growing problem that is not going away.
If you know someone or have been a victim of sexual abuse in any way, TELL someone and SPEAK to someone. It is the only way to work through the hurt, pain, and shame that is associated with this type of crime.
