Open me for hair dying details!
Hey guys! So I love changing up my hair color A LOT.
I decided to dye my hair a lavender purple color at home. I used a semi permanent hair dye so it was NOT damaging. My hair was bleached and lightened by my hair dresser. You will need blonde hair. You can also just do a regular purple on darker hair. I do not advice to lighten or bleach your hair on your own. If you do, remember that their can be consequences like dry, damaged, and/or uneven hair.
What I used:
Pravana Vivids in Violet - About $10 on ebay.
Suave Naturals Tropical Coconut Conditioner - $1.50 at Walmart.
Hair Dye Bowl - Sally's Beauty Supple
Hair Brush- Sally's Beauty Supply
First choose a white conditioner. I chose the suave one because it's silicone free and it's very inexpensive. Smells great too. I have a lot of hair. Measure out about how much conditioner you'll need to dye your hair.
Then add some of the dye. The dye is VERY pigmented. A little goes a long way. Start off with a little bit of dye and then mix. If you want it to be more intense, add more dye. It's always easy to add more than to take away. If you happen to add to much dye, just add more conditioner. So how much dye will you need? It all depends on how light or dark you want the dye, and how light or dark your hair color is. My hair is blonde, but more of a darker blonde, so I added a lot more dye to my mixture. If your hair is super duper blonde, then you won't need too much since it will show up better on your hair. I recommend adding a little bit more than you want since some dye will fade off when you wash your hair. If you apply the mixture to your hair, and you can't really see the color, then your hair is probably not light enough, so you will need to intensify the color.
Section your hair and apply the mixture with your hair dye brush. Make sure to apply it evenly up to your roots. After you're done, check your hair to make sure you didn't miss anything.
I left my hair dye on for 2 hours. The longer you leave it, the more vibrant your results will be.
It's all about trial and error. Playing around and experimenting helps a lot. Remember, it's just temporary color, so if you mess up, it will not last forever. Plus, it's non damaging! ;)
