In the 4 years I’ve been natural, I hadn’t attempted to straighten my hair with a flat iron. Up until now, I had only used direct heat to do a blow out and indirect heat to stretch my hair by roller setting. I said I wanted to wait until year 5 to flat iron my hair but, what’s one more year!

Now, I didn’t actually do the straightening myself. The only stylist I used to go to when I was relaxed is who I contacted to flat iron my natural hair.
As you can see in the video, my hair is REALLY straight! Am I concerned about possible heat damage? Not really. I only say this because my curl pattern is naturally loose: meaning, I don’t have tightly coiled hair. Because of this, I don’t wear wash n go’s and I rarely wear twist-outs and braid-outs longer than 1 day. On a typical day, you’ll find me wearing my hair in a bun or two-strand twists.
So, for my hair to remain in a somewhat “straightened” stated wouldn’t bother me, given how I wear my hair stretched almost 100% of the time.
In my next video, I’ll show you how my hair reverted (or didn’t) back to its natural state.
