Ive had a couple of request for a makeup tutorial, and its been something I've been hesitant on doing for many reasons, however it did inspire me to create this video!
Show More Ive had a couple of request for a makeup tutorial, and its been something I've been hesitant on doing for many reasons, however it did inspire me to create this video!
For this project I chose to talk about how beauty advertisements affect my self worth and influence an excessive need to meet impossible standards of beauty. We are being sold the idea of being beautiful, and these adds say its necessary to buy all of these products to try to meet this standard of beauty. Instead of talking about all women as a whole, I felt I should focus on what affects me personally and in turn some people would be able to relate to that. I created a video installation, in the video it shows me getting ready for a day in which I want to feel like I look beautiful and show how many products it takes for me to achieve that. I also though it was important to show the prices of these products to show the consumerism involved, the final price for all the makeup products I used was over 600$ ! In the background of the video I placed magazine adds to show the influence the media has on women. I wanted to show the consumerism attached with the medias standards of beauty.

For the final presentation of this I plastered the wall with these magazine advertisements and placed a sheet of frosted mylar on top of them to blur them out a little, then played the video on top of that. I did this because I wanted to show whats behind this excessive need to look beautiful and the fact that we are being sold the option to be "beautiful".
