I wanted fun, bright, happy looking summer pillows! My bed is the foundation of my being, seriously lol. It's so important to me! LOL
When it looks sad, or boring - I FEEL sad, and boring... I immediately got on Hautelook, Overstock, Amazon, Target, OneKingsLane, BeyondTheRack, looking for fun 20x20 pillows... they all cost a minimum of $30 each + $15 each for 12x12 or 14x14... after tax and shipping, I would have had $130 less in my bank account. No thanks. I just revamped my old white pillow cases (that have seen better days). All the materials I already had except for some paint colors and the photo paper. Even if you bought all the paint new, photo paper, plain pillow cases, etc. It wouldn't cost you more than $40-$50. Worth it to me. It was fun to do, and gratifying to finish.
I looooove DIY's! Thank you Pinterest family for always inspiring ;)
The Materials:
-Pillow Cases (white or light colors work best)
-Glossy, thick, 8.5x11 Photo Paper - you can use cardstock, but depending on the paint consistency, it may tear on you
-Inkjet printer (to print the stencil PDF's provided below)
-Xacto to cut out the patterns
-Acrylic paint or fabric paint of your choice
-Fabric Medium if you use acrylic paint
-Sponges, foam pouncers, or a paint brush
-Painters tape (I used the 3M Pro Painter Grade Masking Tape #2020)
I used mostly Martha Stewart Craft paints (pearl, metallic, and glitter finishes). And I also used Martha Stewarts Tintable Fabric Medium (my favorite).
I also used "Craft Essentials" acrylic paint (they're about 87 cents a bottle! SCORE!)
I also used the Foam Pouncer Set by Martha Stewart (no, this was not sponsored) + Loew-Cornells "Wash" brush to clean up the edges of the patterns.
The clear mini tupperwares that I mixed the paints in were from the "99 cent Only" store! They come in the square shape or round shape, 10-pack for under a buck! And I love them to store opened Sculpey clay, mixed paints, beads, jewelry, and anything small that I have a lot of in my craft room! The lids snap tightly and I have not had one that ever failed me (I literally have at LEAST 200+ mini tubs all over my house lol)
THE PRINTABLE STENCILS!

****TIPS:****
-You'll notice as I dipped my pouncer into the paint, I immediately dabbed off the excess paint onto the lid of the tupperware. This removes all the extra that usually seeps under stencils and causes havoc on your patterns. So less is more in this painting project.
-If paint does seep under stencils, don't worry, it's easy to re-paint using a detailer paint brush.
-If you print on a sturdy photo paper, the stencils can be used over and over again. Much more durable than using regular printer paper, or even cardstock paper.
