You can use gel, but I used Eden Body Works Edge Glaze because it lays my edges down without drying them out. It leaves a white caste at first like most edge controls, but it goes away after a few minutes and your hair is soft and sleek after :)

What is your hair type?

Answer:

My hair isn't one "type". I have 4a through out the perimeter, 3b in the front and 3c through out the rest. Hope that helps
