Updos are a great protective style for my natural hair. I have to admit, while I have no issues cornrowing my hair, flat twisting is something I need to do more of to get better at.
For this flat twist updo style, I started on dry hair. I think next time, I'll flat twist on damp hair.
I wanted to use a product that would give me a little hold (without me having to use a gel). I decided to try the Naturally Silk Elements Curling Cream Gel. I got it from Sally's.
I first parted off the section to be used as my pompadour. I like to flat twist in sections so, I sectioned off a small section for flat twisting.
I applied a little bit of the product to each section of hair prior to flat twisting. Once I finished the "updo" part, I proceeded to two-strand twist the pompadour section.
Once the two-strand twists were done, I brought the updo flat twists towards the front of my two-strand twists, and secured them with a hair tie.
I then "rolled and tucked" the twists, forming them into a pompadour. I used hair pins to secure the pompadour.
I wore this protective style for 1 week.
